What is DOGust?
August 1st is a day to celebrate the communal birthday of America's shelter dogs. Since many shelter dogs do not have known records or confirmed birthdates, we use 8/1 in their place. The Universal Birthday For Shelter Dogs is a newly adopted holiday, but one we can all celebrate in coming together for a good cause. Created in 2008 by the North Shore Animal League America, DOGust serves as a sort to raise awareness for shelter dog well-being and to further the good-doings of adoption.
Celebrate with us!
Dogs are a part of the Riley Volvo family. In fact, over half of our Riley Volvo staff has a dog in their family. Our customers, too, tend to be dog-friendly or dog-loving families. We regularly have customers who bring their dogs in when dropping off or picking up their cars for Service appointments. These furry friends round out our families and lighten our lives. How can you celebrate DOGust? Throw your adopted pup a birthday party! Or better yet, adopt a shelter dog and give it a good, loving home.
Help the cause.
There are still far too many dogs in shelters without homes. These shelters need our (and your) help. Local adoption facilities are always looking for volunteers to help with daily activities, and of course they can use donations as well. More importantly, dogs need homes. If you are looking to add a dog to your family, be sure to look to your local shelter. Your newest family member is likely waiting for you there.
Shelter dogs love us.
Have a shelter dog? Show us how much you love them by posting a picture of your four-legged-friend and your Volvo! Be sure to tag us in the post on Instagram @rileyvolvo and #dogsofrileyvolvo and we will share it in our Stories.
