In a testament to the strength of the company's new product strategy and ongoing operational and financial transformation, Volvo reported earlier today that it had surpassed the half-million vehicles sold mark for the first time in its 89 year history. Thanks, in part, to the introduction of the XC90 SUV in the second half of the year, Volvo ended 2015 with 503,127 vehicles sold.
Volvo saw strong performances from all three of its core global regions. Europe, which accounted for more than 50 percent of total global volume, saw sales increase 10.6 percent to 269,249. Sales in the United States continued to gain momentum, increasing more than 24 percent over 2014, and China though flat most of the year, saw sales rise 11.4 percent in the fourth quarter.
“I am delighted to report that 2015 was a year of record sales,” said Håkan Samuelsson, chief executive. “Now, with a successful 2015 behind us, Volvo is about to enter the second phase of its global transformation. Once completed, Volvo will have ceased being a minor automotive player and taken its position as a truly global premium car company. More records will tumble in coming years.”
