If anyone needed any proof that new Volvo vehicles are reliable, they needn't look any further than to Irv Gordon's 1966 P1800. He bought the classic model the year it arrived, and he's been driving it ever since, probably more than any of us ever will in a lifetime.
This particular Volvo still looks showroom new and runs like a charm thanks to routine service and auto repair over the years, and has racked up 3 million miles. That's right, 3 million.
The feat was recently accomplished up on the Seward Highway in Alaska, and with each mile ticked off the odometer it continues to break its own record it set long ago.
Back in 1966, Gordon bought the car on a Friday, and brought it back in for its 1,500-mile check up on Monday. With loads of joyrides and a 125-mile round-trip commute to work, within 10 years, the P1800 had 500,000 miles on it. In 1987, it passed the 1 million mark, and the 2 million mile threshold was hit in 2002. It's all just quite amazing.
Here at Volvo of Stamford, we like to say that all the models we have in our showroom are just as capable as the P1800 in reaching big milestones like that, while also having the right combination of luxury, style, and safety that will satisfy drivers the duration of their ownership.
