There are quite a bit of coming changes expected in new Volvo vehicles. The car maker has revealed its plans on engine designs that will be powering the new Volvo models soon to be sitting in our Stamford, CT showroom. They are highly efficient designs that have been dubbed Drive-E.

Particulars concerning the two engines that are being built on the Drive-E philosophy are now available, and they're certainly interesting. Worldwide, drivers will be able to obtain either gas and diesel versions, however in America only gas-powered versions will be available, for the time being. Also, upon their initial release, the Drive-E engines will only be available on front-wheel drive models.

In terms of specs you will find two levels: the T5 and T6. Around the T5, there is a turbocharged 240-horsepower and 258 pound-ft of torque output. The T6 pushes it up to 302 horsepower and 295 pound-ft of torque. Both will be operating on an eight-speed automatic transmissions. Volvo states that they're between 13 and 26 percent more efficient, more compact and around 100 pounds lighter than current engines.

The brand new Drive-E engines will be a part of Volvo's forthcoming hybrid drive system. Something to really look forward from the auto manufacturer. To stay in the loop, keep up with our blog.
